Every founder I talk to treats pricing as the last decision. They build the
thing, then work backwards from costs to a number that feels defensible. That gets it exactly the wrong way round. The price is the first thing a
stranger learns about your product, and it arrives before any of your copy
does. It is doing positioning work whether you intend it to or not.
What the number says
A tool at nine dollars a month is telling people it expects to be bought
without a conversation. A tool at nine hundred is telling them there will be a
conversation, and that someone will be accountable when it goes wrong. Neither
is more honest than the other. They are different promises. The mistake is making the promise by accident.
